CHOLESS-STEROL™
For Maintaining Healthy Cholesterol and
Homocysteine Levels
CHOLESS-STEROL™ contains B-Vitamins (Vitamin B-6, Folic
Acid, and Vitamin B-12) plus Cholestatin® and Guggul Extract
to help maintain healthy cholesterol and homocysteine levels.
These nutrients work synergistically to promote healthy cardiovascular
function. CHOLESS-STEROL™ is free of sugar, starch,
yeast, salt, wheat, corn, milk, preservatives, and artificial
colors-flavors-dyes.
Four Capsules of CHOLESS-STEROL™ supply:
B-Vitamins:
Vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine HCl) – 50 mg
Folate (folic acid) – 800 mcg
Vitamin B-12 (cyanocobalamin) – 500 mcg
Inadequate intakes of Folic Acid, Vitamin B-6 or Vitamin B-12
can lead to elevated blood concentrations of homocysteine
(an intermediate in the conversion of the amino acid methionine
to cysteine), which at high levels is thought to cause vascular
damage and promote accumulation of fatty deposits in the inner
linings of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Researchers believe
that homocysteine acts by directly damaging the artery, by
reducing the integrity of the vessel wall, and by interfering
with the formation of collagen.
Folic Acid is required for the conversion of homocysteine
to methionine. Enzymes containing cofactors Vitamin B-6 and
Vitamin B-12 are also necessary for this conversion. An adequate
intake of all three of these B-Vitamins is considered to be
the best approach for maintaining healthy homocysteine levels.
Cholestatin
® (Plant Sterols) – 1200 mg in 4 capsules.
The Plant Sterols (Beta-Sitosterol, Campesterol and Stigmasterol)
in CHOLESS-STEROL™ naturally combine with dietary cholesterol
and secreted cholesterol (from bile) in the intestine to form
a complex which is excreted and therefore not absorbed by
the body. Derived from vegetable oil (without saturated fat,
trans-fatty acids, or calories), these Plant Sterols may also
compete for cholesterol’s absorption sites along the
intestinal wall, thereby blocking its absorption.
Animal products such as meat, cheese, milk, and butter contain
cholesterol. Cholesterol is also synthesized in the body.
Numerous clinical trials have consistently demonstrated the
effectiveness of Plant Sterols in reducing the absorption
of cholesterol (from dietary and endogenous sources) in the
intestine resulting in a reduction of LDL cholesterol (“bad
cholesterol”) in the bloodstream without affecting HDL
cholesterol (“good cholesterol”). An elevated
blood cholesterol level is a well-established risk factor
for coronary heart disease (CHD). Excess LDL cholesterol in
the blood can contribute to the formation of plaque in arterial
walls which can obstruct efficient blood circulation.
Guggul
Extract (standardized) – 333.3 mg in 4 capsules.
Guggul Extract from the mukul myrrh tree (Commiphora mukul),
native to India, contains guggul lipids (active components:
Z-guggulsterone and E-guggulsterone), which have been clinically
shown to lower both cholesterol and triglyceride levels in
the blood. Natural and without side effects, Guggul Extract
is believed to act by increasing the liver’s metabolism
of LDL cholesterol (“bad cholesterol”). Researchers
believe that guggul lipids may be useful in the prevention
of atherosclerosis as well as the regression of preexisting
atherosclerotic plaques. Guggul is used in Ayurvedic medicine
for preventing atherosclerosis and is an approved treatment
of hyerlipidemia in India.
